A fannish confession
I know my whole flist is aflutter over the new Veronica Mars (which I actually did watch, BTW), but I have a confession that can't wait any longer and it has nothing to do with VM.
I'm in love.
I know I'm fickle. I know I fall in love quickly and then get bored and move on. This is different, though. It's the real thing. I've resisted for years. Years. My friends, both in real life and on-line, have gushed and tried to get me to try this fandom. Nope, I said, not my thing. I had absolutely no interest. Finally, I dipped a toe in. I thought "I guess this is interesting, but it's never going to be an obsession." Boy, was I wrong.
If loving Harry Potter is wrong, I don't want to be right.
I watched the movies with hubby and J., and decided the books might be a good read. I read the first 2 and a half and wasn't blown away. Good, but nothing mind blowing. I was half-way through PoA when I went to visit my mom. In the 5 days I was there, I devoured PoA, GoF, and OotP. I couldn't put them down. I stayed up way too late, needing to see what happened next, what was just around the corner. I finished OotP 2 days before we left to come home, and there was no place to buy HBP (my parents live in a teeny tiny town that mostly closes down after Labor Day). I felt like a junkie in need of a fix. I ended up buying HBP in the Minneapolis airport, praying that J. would entertain himself so I could finish. That night, even though I'd been up since 4am and had to work as soon as I got home, I stayed up until midnight reading.
And then I went searching for fanfic. I've got it bad. I tore through After the End (which I now need to reread) and having been searching for recs. I adore Harry/Ginny, but Remus/Sirius might actually tie as my OTP and Ron/Hermoine definitely make me happy. And don't even get me started on the non-slashy Harry and Sirius godfather/godson relationship. Of course, I have no time to read, but I don't even care.
*sigh* I love finding new fandoms.

That's awesome.
So you cried while reading After the End, right?
no subject
Multiple times. To the point of embarrassing myself. The part where Harry cries in Ginny's arms? Huge, fat, snotty sobbing.
And look! Multiple icons!

And it seems like a love a different character with every chapter. Fred and George kill me, and yesterday I was on a Tonks kick.

Are you aware there's a CJ/Bill Weasley fic that is, like, totally awesome?

Two: I have not yet delved into HP fic except for a incredible HP/BtVS cross-over teaser fic that

And OMG, After the End is like the ULTIMATE fic EVER. I laughed when

BTW - I came home for lunch just in time to catch Pacey and Joey having sex for the first time. I <3 them.

All the characters are wonderful, whether I like them or not. Yup, they're fantastic. Glad you've finally taken the plunge!

Oh, and I got my roommate hooked on Grey's Anatomy. I thought you might be proud.

I'm so, so proud! It's all about dealing the crack. *eg*

This can't be emphasized enough. Don't go to the big online discussion groups. You will loose IQ points.

That is definitely my favorite relationship in the HP universe. From watching the 3rd movie, it was that which convinced me to read the books. I can't say I'm really into any of the romantic ships in the books, though I have a theory about Snape being in love with Lily that I totally want to happen.

Ooooohhh. Now THAT is intriguing.

Now then it appears as if, no surprise, we're totally on the same 'shipwave. I didn't really get into fic and such until post POA movie, because the part at the end with Remus and Sirius. Whoah. So, at my request my favorite R/S author,
It's a fun fandom to be in, honest, because there's tons of meta and tons of people involved, no matter who you 'ship or like...there's a community out there just for you! :) (my guilty 'shipping pleasure: Harry/Draco)

As a Harry/Ginny reader, I have to suggest a few fics. I saw you read "After the End" which is such a fantastic fic. I remember reading it before OotP and now it makes me sad with Sirius....
http://www.phoenixsong.net/fanfiction/story/1129/ - A Muted Sort of Longing by Serenity : This is pre-HBP, but still fantastically written.
http://www.checkmated.com/bedchamber.php?story=3850 - Hearts and Heroes : Primarily R/Hr, but with H/G. This is an AU fic, but well written as well.
http://www.checkmated.com/story.php?story=5714 - Smart Girls: Post-HBP missing scenes. All really good and by the same author as Hearts and Heroes.

HP is just such a fantastic world to explore. Goblet of Fire remains my favorite book of the series, but they're all so excellent. I'm glad you've "seen the light", so to speak. Oh, and your 'ship preferences? Fantastic.

Oh, I know what you're talking about. I resisted it for years, too, thinking it was such a kids thing.
I'm in the middle of HBP now and it's that same feeling - the same one I got from the previous ones and forgot about - of "I cannot put this down right now. I MUST know what happens next."
It makes me giddy ;) So I'm going to go home and read it now. hee!
