I'm going to hell
Is it bad that I'm amused by the latest dust up over Gilmore Girls spoilers? All that anger. All the indignation. All the "I'm never watching again!" It's like the great JAG kerfuffle of 2004. I should have more sympathy, but I just find the whole thing so funny because I've been here so many times before. How long do you think until it winds up on fandomwank? I would die if it turned out like JAG, where so many people walked away from the show because of a storyline that played out 100% different than spoilers led us to believe.
For the record, my opion is behind the cut.
I don't think Luke having a daughter he never knew about is destroying his character. Some have said it does because Luke is not the type to have a one-night stand. Says who? I also have never bought into the "Luke is infallible" myth, so maybe that colors my judgement. And who said it was a one-night stand? How a girl getting pregnant and not telling him is his fault, I have no idea. If anything, he's the victim here.
Is it a little soapy? Sure. But so was Rory sleeping with a married Dean. And the whole R/D/J triangle. We also have to remember that the DNA test is performed by a 10-year-old girl. A brilliant 10 year old, but still. I do think she'll end up being really his, but my point is that there a lot of ways this storyline could go and I think the odds of it ruining the show are slim. I am worried about the potential effects on Luke and Lorelai's relationship, but I'm willing to see how it plays out. I really do think that if done well, it could be very interesting.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, of course, and I do feel bad that so many people are upset.
I might be the only one, but I'll still be watching.

Wow.

Yes, yes, a million times yes..."Hey, character layers, what up?"
Very interesting...

I'll still watch. I'm not getting worked up into a lather over the fact that Luke has a daughter. I'm kind of interested.

I've calmed down a lot from my initial "WTF?!" reaction last night to something more of a resignation to this storyline. I still don't like it, for a myriad of reasons. I think it's cheap, mostly. It feels like a blatant manipulation to draw out the "Will they or won't they?" aspect of L/L's relationship. But I'll watch. Because at least it's more interesting than seeing Rory freak out about seating plans and salmon puffs.

Meanwhile, I'm watching S2 DVDs just so I'll calm down. ;)
(psst, OT - I downloaded the GA torrent and have watched the Cristina/Burke scene a dozen times. <3)

Now, you probably know that I'm (usually) spoiler-free, but when I heard all the ruckus about this supposed spoiler, I couldn't help myself and I had to look it up. I wasn't nearly as bad as I had been imagining, and I don't really know what everyone's getting so upset about. It does sound maybe a little contrived and out of left field, so I sort of hope it's not true, but even if this is a real spoier, I trust the writers to write this in a way that doesn't seem like a bad fanfic, or like the show is turning into a soap opera. And just like you said-- just because Luke has daughter that he never knew about, doesn't mean he had a one night stand with someone (which I agree with others who say a one night stand is so not Luke, and I'll be a bit disappointed in him if that's the case), it was probably someone who he was in a relationship with, and they broke it off, and she later found out she was pregnant and never told him! That's not Luke's fault. I'm kind really interested to see how this turns out if the spoiler is real. And I'm upset that so many fans are willing to give up on the show before even watching to se how it turns out.
Oh, and I love that you used the word "kerfuffle"! I love that word. I was obsessed with it last weekend. :oP

And this is completely plausible. My BiL had this happen. He wasn't told about a pregnancy through an old girlfriend until the boy was 2. He now has custody because mom became a drug addict. So it happens.
One of the interesting things to me about the Luke/Lorelai dyanmic was that he didn't have kids, yet he often acted like he knew how to raise them. Lorelai hasn't been perfect, but she's got the experience of how hard it really is. Something I haven't thought Luke appreciated enough.

Second it's not like Luke has lied to Lore or anyone HE DIDNT KNOW. Luke and Lore are both gonna be floored by this and i really think that they will work through this SIDE BY SIDEno it won't be easy but thats the point really. and I for one am REALLY REALLY excited!
i mean up till now we know Luke as the diner man who has always loved Lorelai. Rachel was gone before we even got to know her and we hardly saw Nicole. Liz is our only link to anything Luke. For once we are FINALY getting history on Luke which i for one have always wanted. This is the first time Lore has to be there for him! he has put up with her parents, Christopher and lately everything with Rory now it's her turn. It's going to be really really good!!
i'm proud of ASP for having the guts to write it!!I say
BRING IT ON!!

MISS PATTY: Oh this must have been what, five, six years ago? Did she break that man’s heart. It was terrible.
LORELAI: How did I not know about this?
SOOKIE: Honey, you had an 11 year old kid and you were just moving into this house. Plus Rachel traveled all the time. She was a photographer.
So that would be 10 years ago cause Rory is 21 now. So it would be right around the time of Rachel now my only question is this. if the girl is ten then you have to add 9 months so if you follow that time line (which who knows if ASP even is) then he would almost HAVE to have cheated on Rachel??? unless the girl is 11 then add nine months it could have been right before Rachel. Maybe the relationship with this girls mom ended badly and he hooked up with Rachel right after and since he seemed happy that's why this girl never told him about the baby?

I love you, JeS, but I have to disagree about some of this... Many of us who are leaving the show are disappointed in where the show has gone over the last several episodes. I'm not upset over Luke "betraying" Lorelai (which he didn't, true), or the possibility of Scott leaving the show (have no idea how that got linked to this spoiler)... Rather, I'm upset at the tired and cliched way that they are developing this story... It's too soap-opera like for my favorite show... Too much like Dynasty and not like Gilmore Girls.
I hope you all keep hope and I do hope that the story is done well... I just feel like Amy and Daniel have shoved the metaphorical middle finger at me one too many times.
