And the don't hate the cake...I'm tired so this might not make sense. Izzie was mad at Meredith because Meredith kept her up all night having loud sex across the hall. She took her agression out by baking a cake. Meredith comes home as she's frosting it and they fight, but in the process Izzie realizes that Meredith is really falling for Derek and tells her so. Meredith's response, because she can't deny it, is "I hate you! And I hate your cake!" So she doesn't really hate the cake. ;)
